SYMMETRY YOGA is based in a unique, spacious studio, located in the Advance Pump & Filter building along Route 125 on the Lee/Barrington, NH town line. Students of all experience levels can practice yoga in a fun, friendly, knowledgeable, and non-assuming atmosphere. Symmetry Yoga is rooted in the principles of Vinyasa, meaning ‘linking breath to movement.’ Vinyasa, an ancient tradition practiced in many yoga systems, is a dynamic style of yoga poses (asanas); it builds heat, endurance, flexibility, strength and concentration. Classes are often built around sun salutations, and our teachers blend their background with the latest knowledge to offer their own unique style.

SPACE

Our studio is over a thousand square feet of cork floor in a warm, inviting, natural pine room, looking up past beams to a twenty-five foot high cathedral ceiling. It occupies the top floor of the Advance Pump & Filter building, and the reaction of most first time visitors is surprise. An added feature of the beams and knotty pine is an infinite selection of drishtis for any pose anywhere in the room.

CLASSES

Our classes range from gentle to more advanced . Gentle classes focus on stretching, breathing and relaxing while a power class will provide a faster paced class with play time for inversions and arm balances and anything else you can dream up.

Missi D’Arcy – E-RYT 200 RYT 500 Owner & Founder

Missi began practicing yoga 15 years ago at O2 Yoga in Portsmouth & Rye after some “gentle” persuading from her daughter Devon. After that first class, she was hooked. Beginning a regular yoga practice for the physical benefits, Missi soon found the emotional & spiritual rewards to be transformational. Yoga helped balance her hectic life as a restaurant manager, and she knew someday she wanted to share all the amazing gifts yoga has to offer. Since receiving her 200hr RYT from Mimi Loureiro of O2 Yoga in Boston, Massachusetts, Missi has continued her education in yoga philosophy, anatomy, & kinesiology through in-depth workshops, classes, and trainings. Missi has taken the Childlight Yoga Teacher training with Lisa Flynn in Dover, NH 2008, and Prenatal Teacher Training with Amy Hopkins of GLOW in York, Maine 2009, SUP (Stand Up Paddleboard) & Yoga training in 2013 with Fullmoon Paddleboard in Wolfboro, NH.
Missi has 2 daughters and 4 grandchildren. When not practicing or teaching Missi enjoys spending time with her grandkids, husband Tom and black lab Maxx. She also enjoys hiking, skydiving, motorcycle riding, and SUP. Missi graduated in May 2015 with her RYT 500 from Yoga on York
Missi received her Reiki II certification with Maureen Miller and after losing her daughter Danielle (32) unexpectedly in April 2015 she is working on introducing a program for Yoga & Grief.

Mary teaches O2 yoga, a challenging, Ashtanga-based, athletic style of vinyasa yoga that was created by Mimi Loureiro, owner of O2 Yoga studios in Somerville, and Cambridge, Massachusetts. Mary resides in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, and was first introduced to O2 Yoga (in Rye, New Hampshire at the time) in 1999; she has been incredibly fortunate to have studied under many dedicated and inspiring teachers on the Seacoast over the years. Yoga has become an integral part of Mary’s life that she is excited to share with others.

Sarah Jones

Sarah White

Sarah was born and raised in Los Angeles, CA. She was trained in Vinyasa Flow 200+hr. Her practice started in 1999 with Anusara Yoga where she feels the root of her teaching comes from. She studies many different styles of yoga including Iyengar, Ashtanga, Kundalini, and Anusara. Sarah believes in balancing your practice with masculine and feminine, muscular energy and organic energy, mind and body as well as heart opening. Her personal philosophy is to go upside-down everyday! She loves to challenge her students to not only try something new and exciting physically but to open up your mental and emotional possibilities to what the hour or so holds for you. Sarah believes yoga is a way to create a controlled confrontational situation so that when you get out into the world, you have the resources to breath and realign your body and mind in a way that will handle any stress. Most importantly Sarah loves to “play” and experiment with new and fun postures. She was also trained by Miniyogis, in Santa Monica, CA, to teach Kids Yoga.

Carrie Becker is a loving wife, stay at home mom who enjoys seeing the world through the eyes of her two boys; making her more flexible, silly, & spontaneous. Her number one passion is her family, but understands her need to take care of herself and Yoga is one way. Her path to yoga is a different one. She was a classically trained semi-professional ballerina in junior high but decided to play basketball instead of become a prima-ballerina. After moving with her husband to the Seacoast of NH, she looked for another physical outlet and stumbled upon yoga in 2006. At first yoga was a physical outlet and then later became an emotional outlet. Carrie wanted a way to exercise without putting a lot of stress on her body. In the beginning, it was just a way to stretch, sweat, and exercise. Later she developed a relationship with her mat where she learned to be with present and focus on herself. It is a place where she feels safe, alive, at peace, and happy with herself. She believes that her yoga practice helped her body and soul reach her ultimate dream. Carrie’s mat is her new personal passion, besides her wonderful family which is why Carrie made the decision to complete her 200hr RYT through Yoga NH. Carrie completed her 100 hour certification in Mindful Yoga Therapy Yoga Therapy from Suzanne Manafort, November 2017. MYT is a style of yoga that helps military veterans and others who have faced severe trauma in their lives. Hopefully, by teaching she can help others find peace with themselves and possibly what they are searching for in life while on their mat.

Yoga has ebbed and flowed in Deb’s life for a long time until she finally committed to a regular practice in 2009. Since then Deb has been able to experience advances and setbacks as she deepens her practice and learns more about what works for her body. Deb credits Sarah Jones, HappyLoveYogaSchool and Missi D’Arcy, Symmetry Yoga Studio, for the knowledge and passion they bring to their teaching. Deb has learned that falling and laughter are all part of a yoga practice!
Deb wants to make yoga accessible and enjoyable for all. Come to the mat and try on the poses and sync up with the breath and see what happens for you!
Deb recently graduated from HappyLoveYogaSchool with her 200RYT certification. Deb has 40 certifiable hours of children’s yoga divided between Childlight Yoga and Every Kids Yoga, Deb has been fortunate to offer yoga in preschool and high school classrooms.

Through her own yoga experience, Colleen has discovered the nurturing, and spiritual qualities that yoga provides as well as the joy of coming to a pose, with patience and persistence, one small step after the other. Her hope is to share this joy with others by making yoga approachable and accessible to all.

Colleen is a RYT-200 certified instructor practicing B.K.S Iyengar based vinyasa flow yoga with the influence of Anusara yoga. Colleen currently works to share this knowledge and love of yoga within the educational setting. Through yoga, she is helping teachers find stillness, patience and gratitude and students find focus and confidence.

Colleen works hard, every day, to change the phrase “I can’t” to “Someday I will” one yoga pose at a time.

Devon Boyd

Devon is inspired by yoga’s transformative power for the body, mind, and spirit both on and off the mat. She strives to bring a sense of humor, freedom, and kindness to her classes and hopes to share nuggets of yogic wisdom along the way.
All classes will combine breath awareness, mindful movement, and conscious intention to promote peace, stability and strength in each pose, encouraging each individual to discover the best way for them to open up and transform the body, calm the mind, and to fully breathe.
Devon is a licensed massage therapist and recent graduate of Yoga NH’s 200 hour RYT program. She looks forward to continuing on to her 500 RYT in October of 2016.

Jennifer is a graduate of Symmetry Yoga’s first RYT200 yoga teacher training program and teaches all levels of Vinyasa Flow yoga. She is a welcoming instructor whose classes are energetic, playful, and empower students of all ages, genders, preferences, ethnicities and backgrounds to explore their inner strength and practice mindfulness. Jen also loves to teach outdoors and in the summer months offers Stand Up Paddleboard (SUP) yoga classes on Pawtuckaway Lake in Nottingham, NH, where she calls home.

Elyse Harris

Elyse Harris is a 200-hour Registered Yoga Teacher and completed her teacher training at Symmetry Yoga Studio in Lee. She is trained in Vinyasa-style yoga, which connects movement with the breath to flow from one posture to the next. In Elyse’s yoga classes, you can expect a strong and athletic flow with emphasis on the breath and mindful movement. Modifications are offered throughout class to accommodate all levels and abilities. With a welcoming and collaborative spirit, Elyse hopes to enable her students to explore yoga and experience both the physical and mental benefits.Elyse is passionate about holistic living – using natural ways to find balance in the mind, body and spirit. When she’s not on her yoga mat, you’ll probably find Elyse outside, enjoying the natural world; inside, making a mess (i.e. cooking) in her kitchen; or on her computer, reading about something yoga related! She lives in Lee with her husband, two young children, and their dog, cat and chickens.

Bethany Walker began her yoga practice in 2003 and spent many years exploring the practice intermittently. She made a commitment to fully immerse and dedicate time to her practice in 2012. She felt compelled to complete a teacher training to share her love of yoga. She completed a 200hr RYT in Shakti flow through At Om Yoga with Asa Dustin and Nel Norwesh and completed a second 200hr RYT in vinyasa flow with Sarah Jones through Happy Love Yoga School. She is passionate about evolving her practice by continuously learning and integrating yoga on and off the mat.

First stepping onto a mat over thirty-eight years ago, Paula has experienced a rich background in practicing and celebrating the passion of yoga in her life. She has studied with many teachers, and most recently has been inspired by the teachings of Missi D’Arcy, founder and owner of Symmetry Yoga Studio in Lee, NH and completed her 200 hour training under the mentorship of Sarah Jones from HappyLoveYogaSchool in Portsmouth, NH. Trained as a social work psychotherapist,Paula’s passion for mindfulness and movement extended to her career as a middle school counselor, bringing some of this passion into the classroom.Paula resides in Portsmouth, NH where she also nurtures gardens, paints and indulges in her love for paddleboard yoga.

Kat is inspired by yoga. She is above all else an artist of life. She found herself wandering curiously onto the mat in 2010 and fell instantly in love with the self expression and healing benefits she found in the practice. Yoga opened doorways in her life and her art that she may have never found otherwise. She believes in the magic of yoga, and uses this gift daily to navigate her journey and hopes to help others do the same.
